Motorcycle Repair: damage, voltage regulator, 12 volt

Question
1978 Honda 185T (6 volt. Rebuilding). Someone hooked up a 12 volt battery to it. Won't fire. Any idea what was screwed up by the 12 volt battery? Where do I start?

Answer
I'd bet the voltage regulator is burned out and may be the coils.  Have you checked the fuses? With 12 volts on the battery, almost everything would have had too much current going through them and the fuses should have blown first before you burned any thing out except for the regulator.  It's not fused.
