Motorcycle Repair: Honda CBR 929 RR, honda 929 rr, 2001 honda 929

Question
Good Day Sir: I have a 2001 Honda 929 RR and recently the clutches were destroyed while I was riding and scrapes were in the oil pan. I had all the debris removed, clutches put on, and etc.. Now I have a knock on the right side of the bike as if the piston is going bad or something to that effect. Is there anything that you can think of that I need to check before I go into the engine itself for a rebuild?? You advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Michael, my experience is with older Hondas but if you take a long handle screwdriver and hold the handle to your ear and the blade on the cylinder sleeve and then the crank case near the mains and rod bearings, you'll be able to hear if you have a piston, rod or main bearing going out.  The debris could have gotten into your oil system and taken out a bearing.  When the oil is cold, the filter by-pass can open if the engine is revved up too high before the oil is warm and it will allow dirt to get past the filter.

That's unfortunate, those are sweet motors.
