Motorcycle Repair: Check the oil, engine crankcase, motorcycle experience

Question
I recently purchased a 77 Goldwing from a Harley shop,(long story),they somehow lost the key, so I wasn't really able to start it up, the price was right so I thought I'd take the chance, the salesman said he thought the guy who traded it drove it in,anyhow, all my motorcycle experience is with 400's, 550's and 750's.This is my first touring bike. I looked over the bike and figured how to check all fluid levels but am not sure about checking the oil, sounds stupid but i want to make sure about the oil level before cranking it up.I did see a screw cap , on the right side resembling the one on my 400, but there was no dipstick attached. But I would rather risk sounding the fool than maybe doing damage to what appears to be a good bike. I would really appreciate your help in this, and if you want to get a laugh from this I would definitely understand!!!!!
Thank you, Victor

Answer
Well, it's no surprise you can't find the dipstick.  There isn't one. On the left side of the engine crankcase just below the shift lever, you will find a oil level sight glass.  The bike has to be level or on the center stand to read correctly.
