Volvo: 960 Volvo Station Wagon, volvo station wagon, neutral safety switch

Question
Car will not crank. Battery is new and it will not make a sound when you turn the key. Sometimes if you re-enter the key it will crank. Sometimes it must set for a few days before it will allow you to crank it. Any help?

Answer
Willis,
If there is an alarm on the car make sure that it is disabled. Move the shifter level back and forth try it in neutral. Read any codes see if there is a code for the gear position sensor. That is like the neutral safety switch. Go to the starter small wire and test for voltage when key is in crank position. Run power to the starter small wire and see if that makes it crank.
