Motorcycle Repair: 1968 CL175 Honda Alternator, honda alternator, valve adjustments

Question
Does the alternator on a 1968 CL175 run in oil?  My 1968 has oil in the alternator "compartment" and I tend to think that this is normal but don't know.
Thanks, Bill

Answer
Bill, yes this is normal. From about 1968 most Hondas have oil cooled stators, which makes it a more compact design. Same for 350-450 twins from that era.

When you are done checking timing or valve adjustments, using the rotor markings as a guide, be sure to recheck your oil level before you start the engine again.
