Motorcycle Repair: 69 cb450 kick, kickstarter, kick starter

I have a 1969 cb450 runs great had it idling shut it off and now the kick does not work when in gear the rear wheel turns but not the engine what happened. I have a starter on order so not sure if that works.

It's been a while but that kick starter turns the transmission main shaft.  The bike has to be in neutral and the clutch has to be released before the kickstarter will turn the crank.  If the bike is in gear or the clutch pulled, in the crank won't turn.
