Motorcycle Repair: charging system, negative battery cable, 2007 honda vtx

Question
I have a 2007 Honda VTX 1300C.  My battery went dead.  I trickle charged the battery for 9 hours.  I started the bike up and unhooked the negative battery cable from the battery.   When I did this, the bike stalled immediately.  Shouldn't the bike stay running with the battery unhooked?

sound to me yur battery may be no good afterall because if you take the power that the other battery is giving and your batterry doesnt keep it running could be your rectifier that keeps it charged, try anewe battery on the bike or after you disconnect the jumper battery test your battery. if all this is good you have a ignition problem. hope this helps you.ok.
