Motorcycle Repair: noisy DOHC (normal?), screwdriver blade, screw driver

1979 CB750K. the valvetrain seems noisy /rattly. so loud that i dont like to rev over 5k.  Is this normal? i checked the oil and its in the hash marks when the dipstick is not screwed in.

Sounds like the cam chain needs adjustment.  I wouldn't recommend you run the bike until you get it adjusted.  I've seen where the chain will wears on the sides of the cylinder block and puts a bunch of aluminum shavings in the oil.  Then you're looking at a rebuild. You can take a long handled screw driver and hold the handle to your ear.  Then put the screwdriver blade at various points around the engine and you can listen just like a stethoscope.
