QUESTION: The leak started without the bike even running it just started sometime over the winter and I have not started it after noticing the leak. The bike is a 1998

Answer
Your bottom end of the motor might have filled with oil while sitting and its dripping out the vent. Put a pan under the motor and start it. Some of the oil in the bottom end will pump out the vent. Once you have done this it will be fine
Good luck and happy riding
