Motorcycle Repair: chirping type noise, blown head gasket, power commander iii

Question
QUESTION: i have a 2004 road king police. i put on v&h mufflers and noticed an annoying chirping type noise in the muffler area. After trying other mufflers, the noise remained. i hear the same type of noise on other tc88 harleys. the exhaust fittings are tight and not leaking anywhere. i have sage one download from the dealer, V&H oval slip ons, stage one air, power commander III and have had the bike dynotuned at the dealer. The bike runs great. no pinging or concerning noises in the engine area. it sounds somewhat like a compression knock kind of sound at the back of the bike. i put new muffler hangers on and it doesn't appear to be a rattle of any kind.i just don't know what is making this annoying noise!

ANSWER: SOunds on here are hard to diagnose, since I cant hear them.Does the sounds happen all the time on only on startup when cold? What RPM does it make the sound? When you say at the back of the bike, behind the motor and trans? Does it do it when sitting still and reving the motor or just when riding?

QUESTION: Hello Mike, I hear the noise most when idling and when I'm giving it a little gas
while cruising. It doesn't matter if the bike is hot or cold, sitting still or riding,
the noise is there. It seems to go away when I'm higher in the rpm range like
around 2500 and up. It sounds like it is at the very end of the bike, at the
business end of the mufflers. Thanks, Dan

Answer
Generally, if you hear a chirping sound at the motor, its a blown head gasket. Since you say its at the back of the bike, the only thing I can think of is the exhaust blowing around the baffles and causing a chirping sound.
I wish I could hear it, then I could more readly diagosis it
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
