Motorcycle Repair: Crankcase Breather tube, excessive blowby, crankcase breather

Question
Hi Mike, I have a 73 XLCH iron head with only 14,000 miles on it.About 7 years ago(4000 miles ago)I redid the top end of the engine(pistons,rings,jugs.020 over, heads redone with bronze guides) I just recently had the heads off again to reseal some stubborn oil leaks at the rocker covers and shafts. After a 5 mile road test the bike ran good, but I noticed as it was sitting on the side stand before shutting it down,an oil mist was coming from the hreather tube.Whne I felt it,I could also feel what seemed to be compression pulses from the tube.My question is should there be ANY pressure coming from that tube? I never felt there before and only did because I saw the oil mist. Is this excessive blowby requiring rings/cylinder measuring, etc.?

Answer
You will have pressure coming out of that tube, that is how the bottom end vents. With the age of your bike you will have a slight amount of oil mist going with the air. Your oil pump might be getting old and the return side isnot pumping fast enough
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
