Chrysler Repair: 1990 Chrysler New Yorker - Landau edition, chrysler new yorker, yorker landau

Question
Dear Sir: I'm working on this vehicle, which symptons are that it starts for 1-5 seconds, and then dies.  I put a fuel pressure tester on the rail, which read approx.40 psi.
I have since replaced the regulator and the fuel pump, made sure all lines were clean and clear.  The fuel tank is clean, but the problem did not improve with these repairs. In addition, the anti-theft light continues to blink, even with the key removed.  I have to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. Can this effect the fuel system?  Is there some sort of fuel shut-off in the anti-theft system?  Thanks for any help you can offer.

Answer
It sounds like the theft system is at fault. The reasons for it could fill a book. Here's a few things to try.
1- unlock the passenger door with the key, then try starting the  engine. If it runs, the problem is the switch on the driver;s lock cylinder, or a broken wire between the door and A post. If not,
2- remove the underdash sound deadner on the passenger side and remove glove box. Under the dash through the glovebox hole. you will see 3 boxes. Locate the one that has the 21 pin connector. Remove it from its bracket and let it hang. HAve a friend start the car and while it's running, disconnect the connector from the module. The engine must be running to do this, so you only have a few seconds. Once disconnected, the engine should remain running. If the engine continues to stall out, get back to me for other ideas.
