Question
QUESTION: I BOUGHT THIS BIKE ABOUT A MONTH AGO IT HAS 4500 MILES ON IT AND WHEN I FIRST GOT IT WHEN SHIFTING GEARS MADE ALMOST NO NOISE AT ALL AND NOW WHEN SHIFTING GEARS FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD IT MAKES LIKE A CLANK OR SLAPPING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING LIKE TWO PIECES OF METAL HITTING TOGETHER? IN THIS NORMAL. AND WHERE AND HOW DO I DRAIN CHECK AND FILL THE FLUIDS ON THIS BIKE THANKS FOR YOUR TIME MIKE.

ANSWER: the drain for the primary is below the primary cover, close to the back. I would drain it and check it for any metal. refill it and go for a ride and see how it is.
The oil drain is located under the oil tank on a short hose.

QUESTION: hi again mike ok on my 2006 1200r roadster yesterday on my ride home getting ready to pull in the drive and the engine light on the speedometer came on then went off for a couple mins. i let the bike cool pf and started it back up and the light is still doing the same thing comes on for a couple mins then off and back on. the bike has about 4500 miles on it the guy i bought it from put drag pipes on it not sure about o2 senser if its there or not? im pretty sure there was nothing done to carb or bike as far as adjustments or jets for the pipes.  and my 2nd question is on my 1977 xlh1000 there is a bolt in the bottom of the oil tank it appears to be a drain for the oil is this the proper way to drain the oil? and is all i need to drain to change the oil in this bike? and how to drain and fill the primary/trans on this bike thanks for your time and knowledge mike.

Answer
You dont have a 02 senser on your bike, unless one was added by the owner. In order the check the problem you would have to get a dianostic run on the bike to know what the problem is or you would just be changing parts until you found it.
On your 77, that is the drain for the oil tank. Just warm it up and drain and refill. you should have a oil filter in the top of the oil tank. You can wash it out. the drain for the primary is under the primary. Drain it and remove the inspection cover, which is located at the center of the primary. refill with 50wt oil. Look at the bottom of the primary and you will see a phillips head screw. remove it and with the bike sitting upright fill the primary until oil drips out that hole
