Motorcycle Repair: 1975 Honda CB750K, automatic oiler, oil spot

Question
I am in the process of restoring this bike and after riding it for about a half
hour it was leaking oil once i stopped.  Once the bike cooled down it did not
leak any oil and the oil tank showed it was still full.  Given the amount that
leaked out i expected the oil to be low.  The tank looked like the level of oil
had dropped but the dipstick showed it was full.  The leakage appears to be
on the left side of the engine and I have noticed a small amount of oil seems
to be running down the kick stand  leaving a spot where the bike was resting.
It sat all winter and there was no oil spot where it was standing.  Could this
be related to the chain self oiler?  To the amount of oil i mentioned, could it
be there was too much oil in the take?  What would happen if that were the
case?

Thanks a great deal for you help .

Answer
If you haven't shut off the automatic oiler, that's a pretty good guess.  When I was doing that work, we routinely shut them off to avoid customer complaints.  They don't throw out much oil but enough to make a mess.  You have to use a good chain lube anyway because engine oil isn't a good oil for chains unless you really flood them.
