Motorcycle Repair: Wont stay running, water intrusion, auto parts store

Question
I just purchased a 1996 Vulcan classic 800. The bike has been in a garage and only has 4000 miles on it. I got the bike running after cleaning the tank and carb. Now the bike starts up every time, however there appears to be a lot of watery oil spiting out of a tube where the air filter is. What is the most likly cause, and how to fix it?

Answer
Hi Jason.

That watery oil could be water intrusion into the crankcase.  Replace the oil and look for water in it, but it could hve fuel in it as well.  If the oil smells like fuel, then get the bike to the shop to have them take a look at it.

If it has water, then flush the motor (you can get the kits at an auto parts store) and you should be okay.

Good luck and ride safe.
