Motorcycle Repair: 89 FXR OIL AND ELECTRIC PROBLEM, jumper wire, sourse

Question
Hi Mike i have a 89 fxr with a 1340cc evo and i recently taken off the front head itself to clean up and i reinstalled it and was riding it around to make sure it was ok and it shut off on me. i tried to restart it but it  started to knock so i stoped i'm guessing it overheated so i took off the valve cover to see if oil was pumping through the push rod to the valves and it is not. also power doesnt go to the coils sometimes. after i had did that work to the head and reinstalled it the bike wouldn't start and i checked for spark and didnt have any and there was no power going to the coils and then with me checking around i stop walk inside the house came and check to see once more if it had spark and it did. well thats when i took it for a test drive and it shut off on me now it doesnt have power again so i ran a jumper wire to the coils to start and check the oil problem. any suggestions

Answer
If you dont have power to the coil then you will have to trace the wire back to its sourse. The coil gets its power from the on/off switch on the handlebars. Use a test light and follow the wire.
Also, check your breakers to make sure one is not popping.
Removing the head would have no affect on the oil pumping through the head. There is not alot of oil going up there. You probably dont have a oil problem, unless you got somthing in one of the passages that would stop the oil
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
