Motorcycle Repair: charging problem, harley dyna, bike expert

Question
i have a 2003 harley dyna super glide. my battery keeps loosing it's charge, as though the charging system is not doing it's job. i had the battery tested and it was fine. i don't have the money to bring it to the shop, so i need to fix it myself. what i need to know is, where is the alternator, stator and voltage regulater located and can i pull these and have them tested while they are out of the bike. also i'm obviously not a bike expert or i wouldn't be bothering you with these questions, so if you think that this may not be the problem or have any other suggestions i would love to hear them. i can not thank you enough just for reading this, let alone if you choose to answer these questions.

thank you and i look forward to your response, Shawn

Answer
Since your know your battery is good then its either your stator or regulator. You dont have a alternator. First, you need to determine whether its you stator or regulator that is bad. First, unplug the regulator. Test the stator with a OHM meter for ground. Next start the bike and with a AC volt meter test the voltage out of the stator. At 2000 RPM it should be around 60 volts. If it doenst pass the above tests then it bad. If it passes then it the regulator. The regulator is located on the frame downtubes in the front. The stator is located inside the primary. If you are planning on working on your own bike your best bet is to get a service manual so you have somthing to follow.
Good luck and happy riding
