Motorcycle Repair: 02 1200 SPORTSTER, dyna jet, jet kit

Question
I HAVE A 02 SPORTSTER AND WAS TOLD BY TWO GUYS THAT THE FRONT CYLINDER IS RUNNING LEAN DUE TO THE COLOR OF THE PLUG AND WHEN I RIDE IT BACKFIRES WHEN I SLOW DOWN TO A STOP #2 WHEN I TAKE OFF IN 1ST GEAR AT ABOUT 15 MPH IT LIKE JUMPS LIKE IT IS SLIPPING SOME ONE TOLD ME IT IS THE SHIFTING LEAKAGE NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED IS THIS CORRECT OR IS THERE OTHER CAUSES IT ONLY DOES IT IN 1ST GEAR

Answer
Since you only have one carb and one intake you cant hae one cylinder running lean, unless you have a compression problem. Your bike came out of the factory a little lean. You never said if you have changed anything, but if you did you probably made it leaner. I would install a Dyna-jet kit. that will richen it back to where it should be.
On the slipping, check the adjustment on your clutch. Your slipping is not from a trans adjustment
Good luck and happy riding
