Motorcycle Repair: 1974 Honda 450, engine crankcase, honda 450

The battery drains when motorcycle sits overnight.  After jump start (will not kick start) does not recharge battery.  I have left the run switch on does this drain the battery?  Where would the alternator be located to replace?

If the switch is on, the battery will drain down.  The alternator is under the round left engine crankcase cover. If you take the three screws out you will see the stator and rotor. That bike will not charge up a dead battery and the engine won't start without a charged battery.  The alternator only puts out about 2 amps max. I'd recommend you charge up the patter and then check the voltage with the bike running. At about 3-4000 rpm, the voltage should be 14.5 volts with the headlight on.  If it's not, you'll want to check the stator and voltage regulator.
