Motorcycle Repair: 1984 FXSB shovelhead ignition timing and pushrod adjustment, hydraulic lifters, timing hole

Question
Proper method of timing ignition system on a 1984 shovelhead with electronic ignition and the proper way of adjusting the pushrods with hydraulic lifters.

Answer
To time the bike you need a timing light. Start the bike and at the timing hole shoot the light and find the mark in the light. You will need a clear plug for the timing hole or oil will shoot out. If you need to adjust it you have to turn the timing plate located under the cover on the cam side.
For the pushrods, jack the bike up and remove the spark plugs. Rotate the motor so the front exhaust lifter is all the way to the bottom. remove the lifter and useing a wire in the bottom push the ball upward and pump the lifter. This will get allt he oil out it it. Put it back in and adjust the pushrod longer. Once you get to the point where it will not turn between your fingers back it off about 1 1/2 turns and its set. Do the same thing for each one
Good luck and happy riding
