Motorcycle Repair: 600 shadow runs poorly at loww rpm, speed jets, gas tank

Bought a 95 but will not idle without choke and runs poorly at low rpm. Will carb cleaner in the gas tank hurt or help this situation, or maybe some premium gas?

Steve, my experience is limited to pre-82 Hondas so I can't be specific but what you describe sure sounds like the low speed jets are plugged.  The fact that it runs good with the choke on is the typical indicator. I've never been successful getting carb cleaner to open them up but I've heard some folks have been luck.  Carb cleaner when dosed correctly won't hurt the carbs as long as you don't put too much in.

I've always had to pull the carbs and clean the jets, but you may have better luck than I have with cleaners.
