Motorcycle Repair: FXR, possiblity, harleys

QUESTION: Mike, I have a 1985 FXR with a 1999 S&S 113 motor, their is no way to get the bike into neutral while it is running. It is almost impossible at the light,every once in awhile I can get it  as I am coasting to the light. killing my hand help.

ANSWER: Harleys have always been tough to find netural, due to the fact that there is a small space on the shifter drum for netural. About the only thing you can do is pull the shifter drum and inspect it for wear and possiblity replace it

QUESTION: Mike, this my 1st Harley Iam not familiar with the shifter drum can you give me some more detail, "ie" location of the drum and the process for pulling I will try anything. thanks again.

the shifter drum is located inside the trans, so you would have to pull the trans out. If you plan on doing thes yourself, I recommend getting a service manual. In it you will find how to work on hte trans and the steps to remove it
