Motorcycle Repair: 87 CBR 1000F, head gasket, plug holes

Question
Hi, I've got an 87 CBR 1000F and I've just noticed water coming out of the front of the mufflers when I turn the bike off. It doesn't seem to be going through coolant and there is no water in the oil. The bike is still running fine but I can't think of anything that could do this other than a cracked head / blown gasket. It also seems to be too much water to just be condensation.

Answer
That's peculiar...is the bike left outside all the time?  Could it be rain puddling in the muffler?  Are you loosing coolant?  It's possible it's a headgasket problem but normally that will show up as vapor coming out of the exhaust for a while after the engine is first started.  Once the bike is warmed up, you won't see the water vapor anymore.  If it's a head gasket, it's probably leaking into one of the cylinders when the bike is shut off. If this happens, you'll probably hydraulic lock a cylinder and bend a rod when you try to start the engine.   I'd recommend you take the plugs out and crank the engine and see if coolant is blowing out of one of the plug holes.  If you see coolant, you'll want to repair it soon.

Good Luck
