Question
I have a 2000 yamaha 1100 custom vstar ,the other bike I had was a honda and I am assuming they are same for this problem ,the throttle grip does not seem to have any spring pull back on it ,I turn it to raise speed and then to lower speed it does not want to spring back ,is the spring in the grip area or is it down with the carb, any help would be grateful,,thank you

Being that it isn't a HONDA question, I went here:

But there really isn't any detail on how the throttle cables interact with the carbs.

In all of my experience, the throttle return springs are part of the carburetor assemblies. Sometimes the throttle drum on the handlebar gets rough and doesn't allow for proper throttle return. If you put aftermarket grips on some of these bikes, the grip will rub against the throttle housing, acting like a cruise control.

I would follow the throttle cables to the carburetors and look carefully at the carb assemblies for signs of external return springs on the linkages somewhere. The return for the carb slide is a very light spring and isn't connected to the throttle valve plate/shaft which is activated by the throttle cable ends.

Loosen the throttle housing at the handlebar and see if there is any binding going on there. If turning the throttle drum/handgrip continues to stay wherever you turn it, then possibly a previous owner removed the return spring or the inner throttle cable could be unraveling inside the throttle cable outer housing, causing drag and sticking internally.

Yamaha and Honda use different carburetors from different manufacturers, so you really can't compare them directly.
