Motorcycle Repair: Plug Removal, vt700, gas tank

Question
Rich, I Just Got A 1988 Honda vt600vlx And I Want To Change The Spark Plugs. I Can Change The Outside Ones Easy Enough, But The Inside Ones Are Down In A Hole. Do I Have To Remove The Gas Tank To Get At These Plugs. I Do Not Have The Original Plug Socket. At Wits End Trying To Get These Out. Thanx In Advance For Any Suggestions. John.

Answer
John, I'm sorry but my experience is in pre 1982 models.  The plugs on my wife's 85 VT700 are pretty easy to get to so I'm guessing any advice I give would not be correct.  Chances are good you'll have to at least raise the tank.  The 85 VT700 has 2 bolts in the front of the tank and a hinge on the back with a little prop rod under the tank to make this pretty easy. Of course you have to take the seat off to raise the tank.  Like I said this is an 85 so your's could be different.  I'd appreciate hearing back once you find out so I can answer the next guy that asks me that same question.

Regards,
Rich
