Motorcycle Repair: 94 XLD Base Gasket Issues, cylinder head gaskets, gasket kit

Question
I recently did a base up rebuild. Replaced the rings, all seals and gaskets. After I got everything back together  using the H-D Manual to ensure correctness, when I started the bike up the cylinder head gaskets and the base gaskets were leaking on the left side of the engine. So I gradually applied more torque to the outer head bolts until most of the leaking stopped. I took her out for a ride and the base gaskets were still leaking a bit. A little more torque. Rode to work today, still leaking. I used an H-D gasket kit and the base gaskets are completely metal with a raised center. Any suggestions to make it stop other than pull it back apart and replace the gaskets? Thanks!

Answer
You can only torque the heads bolts to the specs. Once they are set you cant retorque then. If you do you are taking a chance of pulling out a head stud
You are going to have to tear it back down. Make sure all the surfaces are clean before installing the gaskets. Personnaly, I dont use Harley gaskets. I use James Genuine Gaskets. I have had better luck with them
Good luck and happy riding
