Motorcycle Repair: valve adjustment, compression stroke, cb160

Question
i have a 1965 cb160 honda and i have the drivers manual and a clymers manual and the both say different things the riders manual says .004 to .006 and the clymers says .002 and the honda doent say if you adjust both cylinders at the same timing mark which is T .The clymers says do one side then rotate engine one turn and do the other . im confused i appreciate any help you can give ken

Answer
Ken,

set the valve clearances cold at about
.004" on both valves. This is safe and
they rattle a bit less with the
settings equal.

The "T" mark is correct but the valve
clearance needs to be set when each
cylinder is on it's own compression stroke and
at "T" or top dead center.
You will need to turn the engine 360 degrees
like the clymer said.

You can check this as both valve
adjusters for that cylinder
will be loose (hopefully) on the compression stroke.

See if they move or rattle a bit
or feel the compression rising
with a finger over the plug hole.
When you feel the compression,
turn until the "T" mark for
that cylinder is aligned with the mark
on the engine.
