Motorcycle Repair: Engine noise?, crank shaft, noise question

QUESTION: I have a 96 Road King and I am getting a whistling noise out of the alternator, crank shaft area more on the left side.  It seems to come and go as I increase and decrease with a load. Do you have any ideas as to what might be the problem.

ANSWER: Noises are hard to diagnois on here, due to the fact that I cant hear it.
Is this somthing that just started? Does it affect how the motor runs?

QUESTION: The engine runs fine and drives fine it just started last year you know it almost sounds like an alternator but I have inspected that and it looks ok.

About the only thing that wouls whine on that side of the bike would be the belt or the gears in the trans. Check the alignment on the belt and the tention. If that doesnt solve the problem try replacing the trans oil.
