Motorcycle Repair: lost, gas bike, air mixture

Question
1980 xlh sprotster - Bike ran normal for about 30min and started idling bad. Accidently turned air mixture screw on SS - E carb. Did not solve problem. Got bike home after visibly looking over bike I found the band clamp for intake was broke. Replaced clamps and manifold seals with new ones and since I had no idea where my air mix screw setting was i am setting it to 1 and 1/4 out from lightly seated to carb body, accelerator pump 2 turns out and idle screw all the way in. bike will not start. Bike will not start with these settings. Pulled air cleaner housing and twisted throtle several times and was not getting and gas. I backed idle screw way out and gave and twisted throttle several times and had gas. Bike now starts and only seems to be running on 1 cylinder. 1 pipe gets extreemly hot and other is cold. I have spark at both cylinders but 1 doesnt seem to be working.

Answer
You probably fouled a plug. Make sure the plugs are clean. Start the bike and once it warms up turn the idle mixture screw inward slowly, just until the bike starts to stumble. Then outward about 1/4 turn and its set. Let the bike warm up all the way and then do it again and you should be ok.
Good luck and happy riding
