Motorcycle Repair: Gas Tank, paintless dent removal, gas tanks

Question
How does a person remove dents from a gas tank?  Are there special tools? Tried researching but I've found nothing.

Answer
Leroy, that kind of work is pretty much for experts.

In some cases, people that have tools, like the paintless dent removal pros, can work dents out from the inside, but they have to be shallow ones and you have to be able to get tools inside the filler opening.

The gas tanks have to be drained and neutralized so you don't blow yourself up, if you need to use a torch to heat up metal the old fashioned way.

You can't just drill holes in the sides and pull the dents out like you can with a car fender, as the holes are very difficult to seal up again. For very rare fuel tanks, especially alloy ones, the experts will cut the bottom out of the tank, make repairs and then reweld the bottom back on again.

If you can't sand the paint off, slap on some BONDO and smooth it all up again, I would leave it to people who have the talent and tools to do the  job right.
