Land Rover Repair: 2000 Disco II gearbox temp light., infared thermometer, engine temp

Hi John, I recently bought a 2000 Disco II. My gearbox temp light which is at the bottom right of the dashboard comes on and off after driving it for a while. The engine temp needle stays at the safe position though. Would you please advise on this ? Thanks in advance.

I advise you to check your transmission temperature.  Most likely, the switch for the warning light has failed.  But if it hasn't, and the gearbox is really hot, then continued operation will ruin it.

You could check the trans pan with an infared thermometer.
