Motorcycle Repair: carbs cb160, bill silver, 76mm

Question
Hi,I have a 1969 cb160 sport--I've always had to choke the bike for cold starts. I rebuilt the carbs and now bike starts without the choke pulled on. engine runs heavy and fouls one plug then the other?--new points,plugs,condenser,coil--timing was set correct--good compression---carbon fouled---Did I set the floats too high? set at .76mm----I'm stumped---Mike

Answer
Mike, you probably put the slides in backwards. They are left and right sided. Cutaways always go towards the air filters.

Also, the float level setting is 19.5 or 21.0mm, depending on if the carbs are stamped C or LD.
