Motorcycle Repair: 1986 honda xr100, honda xr100, compression gauge

Question
the bike starts ok but when i try to drive it there is no power.  how do i adjust the timing?

Answer
Martin,

I don't know if timing is the problem
but usually Hondas have an "F" mark
on the flywheel or magneto.
When this "F" mark lines up with the
timing mark on the engine case
the contact points should just
break open. The contact points are under
the flywheel and should be flat and clean.

You can see them through the flywheel
inspection hole or slot.
If it needs new points you will
need a flywheel puller to remove
the flywheel.

Also, make sure you have good fuel
flow to the carb, clean air filter
and good spark plug.
The carb may need cleaning

You should have enough compression as well
for it to run well. It should easily
blow your finger off the spark plug hole
when kickstarted, about 100-130 PSI with
a compression gauge.
