Motorcycle Repair: 1984 FXRS Neutral hard to find, netural, wron

Hello, I was wondering what I could do to find neutral on my bike. I just bought it and can never seem to find Neutral while it is running and seldom find it when it is not running. Shifting is clunky too, but do-able. What can I do? Thank you for taking the time to help me out!

Finding netural on some harleys has always been hard. I have a 1998 that is a bear to find netural. It is because the netural space on the shifter cam is very small. The only thing you can do is remove the trans and check the chifter cam for wear. Also, the cluncking problem can be checked at the same time. A wron shifter cam can also cause this problem
