Motorcycle Repair: 87 Honda Magna - No Spark, honda magna, plug caps

Question
Wayne, This magna has been sitting for more than two years with no gas tank.  I originally thought I had a fuel system problem and may still run into one, but found that I have no spark on the plugs.  I have checked the resistance on the solenoids and they seem to be good, I cleaned up the kill switch to make sure that contacts were okay, and have checked and cleaned many of the electrical connections.  I found oil residue backed up on the wiring harness from the pulse generator wires to the CDI.  I cleaned everything up, but still no spark.  Believe that I have narrowed the problem down to one of two things.  Would these items go bad from just sitting there in the garage as they worked when I took the bike apart two years ago?

1.  CDI/Spark Unit - I have no way to know if this is bad.  This part if a third of the bikes value.  Is there some diagnostics that I can run on this?

2.  Pulse Generator - Not sure how to diagnose this issue as well.  I have measured the resistance and have come up with 290 OHM at 50 degrees.  The repair manual that I have states that it should be 450 OHM at 70 degrees.  Not sure how much 20 degree temperature difference would make.  Are there other ways to know if this is bad?

Could there be more simple items that I am missing?

Have been cleaning a lot of electrical connectors and other small parts to get lighting, blinkers, ignition switch etc working.  I live in a Colorado so corrosion is not as big of an issue.

Answer
Jason,

it seems unlikely that both spark units went
bad when sitting. Check your side stand switch
and clutch switch operation with a multimeter.
I think the side stand can be bypassed temporarily
by connecting the G/W wire to the G wire on the
wire harness side.

Also check the spark plug caps for about 5000 ohms.
Make sure the ignition coils are well grounded
and battery cables tight, fuses good.

Ignition coils get their power on the black/white wires
I believe. You may be able to check that with
a test light or multimeter.
