Motorcycle Repair: carburator jeting, dyno jet kit, puff of smoke

Question
Hey Mike, got a question about jeting a carb on a 2006 fxsts.I bought this springer the other day and I knew it had a small problem when I bought it.Here's the question, the guy I bought it from had a few extras added on,Vance & Hines short shots and I belive a Arlen Ness air breather,I forget which one he said it was all stock other than that.He told me that the bike runs fine except for a little cough now and then,he said it probably needed a little larger jet in the carb.I asked him if he had put a stage one kit in,and he said no.I've riden the bike about 200 miles and it does what he said.To me the bike seems to have a low idle at a stop, but the bike has real good throtle responce when riding. The cough seems most frequent when you wick the throtle quick from an idle,or when you drop your throtle to shift and bring it back. Also the guys I ride with told me that theres a white puff of smoke when I shift.I cant be for certain but it seems to do better when I leave the enricher out a little. What do you think I should try.

Answer
Get yourself a Dyno-jet kit. In it there will be the correct jets and some other parts you need. You should be able to install it yourself in a couple of hours. It will give you a little more throttle responce and probably will get rid if the cough
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
