Motorcycle Repair: 71 xlch.. we found some things in the chain cover.., thrust washer, oil transfer

Question
mike and i took the chain cover off today.. and we lost about 2qts of oil out of the chain cover alone. and it just reeked of gas. the oil was watery and just smelled so bad. he  also found the little silver part in the oil pan, and a completely chewed up washer ring. also taking off the cover, we noticed between the two sprockets was a little venting screen. it had oil and particles stuck in it. check out the picture links below. could these be main elements in a not starting bike?

Answer
Your first pic looks like the thrust washer that goes on the jackshaft.
The second pic looks like a roller from a bearing. It could come from the trans or the bearing in the primary cover.
The third is a screen, that is called the oil transfer plug.
A couple of questions, what work did the shop do four you and did the bike run when you got it back?
