Motorcycle Repair: Revtek transmission, clutch lever, fxe

Question
I recently purchased 1981 fxe with a 4 speed revtek transmission.  Do you know if it is equipped with a neutral safety/indicator switch, or can be adapted to accept one.
While the bike is running, and I am in first gear, I have a difficult time getting into neutral.  Presently, the only way I can do it is hold the clutch lever in and with the other hand, slowly find neutral with my other hand by pulling on the cat's paw.  Also, are there other web sites or links you could provide me for general maintenance or technical questions.  Next question - I let my son try out the bike, when he returned, it was stuck in gear. I disconnected the linkage and it still didn't make any difference.  I came back an hour later and moved the linkage and it went in neutral. It hasn't occurred since. but I am just curious as to why that would happen.

Answer
The netural switch should be on top ot the trans with one wire going to it. I have not installed one of these trans, but I am going assumn that it would have a netural switch. If you cant find one contact revtech and they should be able to help you.
There are some trans that are tough to get into netural while the bike is running. It has to do with the trans spinning and the very small space in the gear cam in the trans for netural. If your bike stuck in gear, its probably time to remove the trans and do an inspection of it. The cam plate os probably wore and needs replaced or a shifter fork is worn.
If you have tech guestions you can go to this website. On maintance you best bet is to get a service manual.
Good luck and happy riding
