Motorcycle Repair: Sportster XLH Starter Relay, starter relay, starter button

Question
I recenly paid a good amount of money to have my voltage regulator and starter relay switch replaced after my starter relay burned out.  Since then I've had to have the shop replace the starter relay 2 more times because it keeps burning out. The shop is saying they think I should just replace the whole wiring system but I believe there should be a better/cheaper option.  Any ideas or tests you think I should have them run?

Answer
I would first look to see where the problem is. Check your wiring from the battery to the ignitiion swith and then to the starter relay. If you have a pinched wire or a shorted wire then it will burn the relay. Check the voltage at the relay when the starter button is pushed. You should be getting 12 volts.
Good luck and happy riding
