Motorcycle Repair: 1986 Harley 883 alternator magnets, oil pressure switch, 883 harley

Question
I bought the bike new and have not had any problems except a new oil pressure switch, vibrated front turn signals off and that's it except for normal maintenance.  My 883 Harley has been more reliable and durable than my 68 and 73 BMWs.  I recently learned that the alternator magnets can become dislodged from the back side of the clutch and now I am thinking that I have a time bomb.  The bike has 30,000 miles and I do not abuse it much.  I just changed the primary lube and the drain plug magnet looked OK except for the usual minor amount of debris.  Can you guess if I'll ever have a problem with the magnets and if I do and buy a new alternator rotor at great expense (around $500), how do I know if the new part will be better?

Your thoughts on this will be appreciated.

Answer
If you spend $500 now or in 5 years, if or when the magnets come loose, youre going to spend the same amount of money. You know as well as I it'll happen at the most incovenient time, (murphys' law) but either way, same amount of money. you wont do anymore damage that what you'll replace anyway. My suggestion would be to leave it and see what happens. Its just as common for the magnets to NEVER come loose as it is FOR the magnets to come loose..

Hope this helps!
