" hi, i have a 1976 honda cb750f. the problem i have is the fuse blew for good.
1. i ride only with the main fuse, if i put the headlight fuse in the main gets super hot. so when the fuse blows i put in a new one.
2. the major problem of why this email is being sent. the fuse blew again but this time not even a new fuse works...bike dead
so where do i start.
i'm pretty decent with mechanical but when it comes to electrical not so good.

Answer
Tony, I would start checking all the wire connections on the bike... every one, especially those at the junction under the fuel tank area and whatever is left inside the headlight.

Disconnect ALL the wiring connnections.. they are color coded, so you shouldn't worry too much about getting them crossed up again. Check the fuse holder to see if the fuse connectors are fried or overheated from the short circuits.
They need to be clean and firm to hold new fuses in place.

Be sure that the battery is fully charged, install all the fuses, then start connecting wires back together until something pops. Check the wiring colors and follow the wires until you get to the source of the short.

That model has a always ON headlight and the headlight switches are known for failure and internal shorting. The switch doubles as the starter switch and headlight switch, when you push the button. Disconnect the wiring from the right side switch and check the contact circuits with an ohm meter or continuity tester. If the starter button doesn't spring back out when you push it in, then the switch is defective. I have one here that was rewired with a toggle switch to replace the fragile Honda internals.

The other places for problems are where the ignition switch base connects to the wiring harness. They often fall out of the back of the ignition switch or get corroded.

Getting a wiring diagram will be helpful. There may be some info on the www.sohc4.net site. or get a repair manual with the diagram included.  www.helminc.com is the factory source or try Ebay auctions.
