Motorcycle Repair: exhaust pipes, honda shadow 600, drag pipes

I have a 1997 Honda Shadow 600 VLX, in mint condition. I get razzed a little by my friends that have bigger and louder bikes (they say it sounds like their mothers' sewing machine). Is there a way to take the baffles out of the pipes to "beef" up the sound, or should I get new exhaust pipes altogether? If I do, I was considering the Cobra 1 5/8" drag pipes. What's your advice/suggestions? Thanks

I would not modify the stock exhaust at all. If your going to do exhaust do full exhaust from the cylinder all the way back. Just remember that whatever exhaust you choose you will have to jet the carbs for the exhaust. Systems are basically personal preference
