Question
I have an 83 shadow 750 it has been stored for about 3 years my problem is when i start it it only wants to run on one cylinder I have cleaned the carb and checked the fire on all plugs.  it will run on both cylinders if i choke off the carb to the rear cylinder with my hand but it runs rough on that cylinder im thinking its something with the carb still but not sure.  any help would be appreciated.     Glenn

Answer
Glenn, What you are going to have to do is take both carbs back off the bike. Go to the local auto parts and get a "Carb Dip". It comes in a paint can with a basket you can set the carb in and let it soak. You have to COMPLETELY disassemble the carbs. Rubber, gaskets, o-rings and plastic or anything not metal will melt. Do 1 carb at a time and note what cylinder it went to. Take 1 carb apart at a time. Let each carb soak for about 45 min in the solvent. What is happening is the passages are clogged in the carb. Spraying it out with carb cleaner does not cut it. After the carb has soaked in the solvent then completely spray it out with carb or brake cleaner to get the remainder of the solvent off. Be sure to put all the jets in the solvent so they are cleaned out also. You should be able to see light thru them once they are cleaned. Let me know if you need more guidance...
