Motorcycle Repair: 1995 flstc starter replacement, clutch basket, bike sounds

Just started having problems. When starting,,bike sounds like bendix is kicking out but starter not turning over. Dont know if starter is like car starter but thats the best explanation I have. How difficult to change starter motor. Can it be bench tested the same way as a car starter. Thank you.  Howard

You have to remove the primary cover, clutch basket and motor sprocket to get to the jackshaft that is attached to the starter. Once you have that off the you remove the tow bolts that hold the starter on.
Yes, it can be bench tested to see what the problem is
