Motorcycle Repair: Ex500 burning oil and back fires, piston damage, worst case scenario

Question
The more I was looking at the bike I thought it could be a pluged breather, is that at all possible.  Also what would cause the bike to back fire?
Thanks
Beau

Question -
I have a 1993 Kawasaki ninja that burns oil.  The oil is leaking out of the motor where the pipes get mounted.  It only leaks and burns on one side.  It back fires when I shift at high rpms too.  Any ideas would be great.
Thanks

Beau, you have major engine problems. worst case scenario is a engine rebuild , lesser would be a new or redone head. hard to tell how the oil is getting there via the valve seals or the cylinder wall but with either case its major. i would get it tore down and find out whats going on

Answer
Beau, are you getting alot of oil into your air filter. a clogged breather will dump oil into the airbox. a plugged breather will not force oil into the combustion area tho. is it burning the oil and smoke out the exhaust ? if it is i still think you have an issue with the motor. valve seal or possible piston damage
