Motorcycle Repair: Maybe my stator? Maybe my battery? Weird....., weird question, stator

Question
QUESTION: Mike,

Happy to have found this website. Maybe you can help me.  If so, you would be the man!

Here goes....took the bike out yesterday. Went for a ride, stopped in a store, can out....turned bike on.....check engine light and low battery light on my 06 Road Glide.  huh??

Looked at the voltage on the dash, and it's reading just about 10 volts!  This can't be good.

So, I turn off my radio, try not to use the signals (signal with my hands), and on the way home, the engine light and low battery light go away.

I get home...find a few helpful websites, pull some DTC Codes, and I get...PO562 (Battery Voltage Low EFI)

I keep going throught the sequence, and I get Pn 127nJ007-0 (as the part number that is bad).  Can't find this anywhere and I am not sure what to do.

I'd like to check the stator and regulator, but really not sure where the stator is or how to check it.  I know where the regulator is, but not sure how to unplug it :-(

Help...............

ANSWER: First, start the bike and at the battery, when running at about 2000 RPM what voltage are you getting? use a volt meter and not go by the gage

QUESTION: Mike,

I've got 14.0 on the battery after bringing her up to 2000RPM's.  When I turn on the radio, she drops down to 13.9.

Radio off....14.0 steady on the digital multimeter.

Any ideas?

I also put a multimeter on the stator side on the regulator after removing the plug, and I'm getting 11.1 or so DC. Could this indicate that the regulator is bad?  Also, the check engine light and low batt light turned off, so I'm not sure if it's just that the battery had time to rest after yesterday's ride.

What do you think?

Answer
First, have the battery tested to make sure its good. If its good then unplug the regulator from the stator and do a OHMs test on the stator pins. Do each pin to ground. Should be no OHMs. Start the bike and at the stator pins you should get around 60 AC (not DC) volts. If the stator tests out ok, then the regulator is bad.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
