Motorcycle Repair: 1987 yamaha pw80 two stroke, starter solenoid, automatic clutch

Question
QUESTION: i have a problem with either my starter ignition relay coil or my solenoid because my engine isn't starting. it sounds like it wants to turn over but i guess I'm just not getting power to the spark plug. And the relay and the solenoid are Mitsubishi branded. but on the relay has two extra wires coming out of the end toward the handle bars. and i need help trying to get it fixed.

ANSWER: Jonathan,

I would like to help but I can't figure
out what your bike is, I never heard
of a starter solenoid on a PW80 which
is a small dirt bike is it not?
Check for spark on your spark plug.
If no spark, disconnect your kill button
and try again.
See if you can get me a better description of
the bike model and where the parts are
that you are trying to check.
Does your bike have an electric starter on it?
Is it a dirt bike, scooter or street bike?
Thanks!

QUESTION: yeah its a small bike. ok well the relay is on the frame located under the gas tank and the solenoid thing is connected to the relay via wires.the solenoid thing is behind the relay. there is no electric start just a kick start. and its a dirt bike. its oil injected. the two wires i was talking about were behind an automatic clutch but not connected to anything. the spark plug has a spark. but i think the clutch is bad too.

Answer
Jonathan,

the parts you are calling relay and solenoid are
likely your CDI ignition unit and ignition coil.

-The coil has a wire that goes to the spark plug.
The other box tells the spark when to happen
and is like a little computer.

-If you have spark at your spark plug then
all you need is to see if fuel
is getting to the carburetor.

-Open the screw on the bottom of the carb
or pull the gas line off and see if fuel
comes out steadily.

-I am not sure what the other wires
you mentioned are. They may be for
the kill button. If you have no spark
then those wires may go to the CDI unit
under the gas tank.

-if the clutch isn't working it may
need to be rebuilt, you would
need to buy a repair manual to tackle that.
A manual is very helpful and a good way
to learn all about fixing your bike.
