Motorcycle Repair: Noise in Honda 750, honda vt750, shadow ace

I have a 2003 Honda VT750 Shadow Ace Deluxe.  It has 21,000 miles on it.  Lately, when I take off in first gear I can hear a faint clunking type noise, and also somewhat in second gear.  Other gears are ok.  No slipping of the clutch and it seems like the noise is coming from the front or left side of the bike.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Hi Roger,
It sounds to me like the the drive chain (inside the engine) is just begining to wear to the point that there is a slight amount of "slack". If the bike still seems to ride ok, I woundn't worry too much. If riding is affected, then I wounld take it in to have a Yamaha Tech take a look at it...
