Motorcycle Repair: CT90 Trasmission Trouble, honda ct90, clutch release

Question
I have a 1969 Honda CT90 and the transmission has started to act up. about half the time i shift up it will not catch and it will go into neutral. when shifting down i have to push the  foot lever three or four times for it to finally catch and go into first. It acts up the most shifting up and down from second. Thanks!

Probably the screw has loosened up on the end of the shift drum and/or the detent roller is out of position or worn. If the plate comes loose enough, the pins will fall out of the end of the shift drum.

You will have to pull the clutch cover to access the gearshift parts. When you pull the cover, the clutch release parts will get scrambled in there, so pay close attention to  how it goes back together again.

Don't keep banging on the shift lever, if this happens in the future, as it will only damage the shift forks and selector parts.
