Motorcycle Repair: 1980 Honda CB400, panka, gas tank

Question
i recently got my motorcycle back after 5 1/2 years... it has sat in the weather for that long... i got it back and charged the battery... it tries to turn over but wont... the plugs look good but dont know if they were changed or the same...the carbs are clean gas tank has been emptied and re-filled... the compression is good...the fuel is going through the tank into the carbs and i am sure it is going through the carbs as well...the spark plugs spark when i take them out ... i am wondering now what this problem might be... i thought maybe the spark plugs had build-up on them from sitting so long that inside the chamber has too much build-up that it wont spark in there... but i am not a mechanic and dont know much about it either... if there are any more suggetions i should try please let me know... i really want this thing running before the season is over... thank you all very much...

Answer
Hi Joe,

You mentioned The bike tries to turn over but wont, This sounds to me like a bad starter, but then again, you also mentioned it has good compression, this tells me you must have a kick starter? In any event, try the starter 1stm maybe by putting power from the battery directly to it, thatll tell you if its the starter or something electrical wrong with the bike..

Hope this helps!!
